Naamkaran (Baby Naming Ceremony) is performed to formally announce and bless the newborn with a name in front of family, community, and divine presence. It marks the child's spiritual identity and is believed to have astrological, emotional, and karmic significance. It aligns the baby’s name with their nakshatra (birth star) or astrological chart. It invokes blessings for a healthy, prosperous, and dharmic life. It is often combined with rituals for purification and protection from evil influences.
